Paya Bakau Park is located about 5 km from Lumut
town, at 4o12’43.6”N, 100o38’52.7”E. The park was
officially opened in January 1995 by the Manjung Municipal Council. It has an
approximate 370 m long and 6 feet wide route going through the mangrove forest
within the park. This park has been one of the visitors’ attractions when they
visit the Manjung district. The long-tailed macaque M. fascicularis and southern
pig-tailed macaque M. nemestrina have
been the main attraction when visitors visit this park. Other common animals
that have been encountered are the Banded leaf monkey Trachipitechus obscurus, squirrels, monitor lizard Varanus salvator, crows, pigeons, kingfishers,
crabs and mudskippers.
Main entrance
If you plan to visit Pangkor Island, you will pass by this town. Do visit the Taman Paya Bakau in the evening between 1630 hours and 1830 hours. During this period of time, you will be able to observe and 'feed' the long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) and pig-tailed macaque (Macaca nemestrina) at close range at the main park entrance.
